We're Engaged!

Bruna Camargo

I originally had planned to use this shoot to share ONE piece of good news with you guys. But Pedro is a sneaky man, therefore here come TWO pieces of great news.

1) I've partnered with Neiman Marcus to showcase their versatile and gigantic selection of designer pieces. They've cordially invited me to pick some favorites to style into StyleMile looks and I couldn't be more excited about this partnership!

2) WE'RE ENGAGED! I kind of gave that part away on the title. And if you follow me on Insta and Snapchat @bruntunes, you probably caught wind of it last night. :)

Here's how the proposal happened:

I had JUST gotten home from Neiman Marcus, and I couldn't wait to shoot my pretty picks. The sun was going down so I was hurrying Pedro along to take some photos. As I was adding some final touches, I hear him come into the room and say "Wait, there's something missing, I think it'll make you look even prettier." So I, exasperated about the sun quickly setting, let out a big sigh and said "Okay, whaaaat!?" Haha, oh and did I shut up real fast!

I turned around, and there he was, the boy who's grown into a man by my side, down on one knee, hands shaking grasping a little box with a sparkly piece of jewelry inside. I couldn't tell you what was shining harder, the ring or his eyes.

How you look when the man you've loved for 7 years asks you to marry him.

I think I said yes.

Acho que eu disse sim.

So then he carried on with the blog pics, because WHY THE HELL NOT?! The sun was still going down! Hahaha!!

Aí né, continuamos com as fotos porque aqui a gente é profissa. Hahahaha, ai gente.

Now I don't wanna get TOO sappy here, but for those of you who know us, you know how tough our road has been to this moment. Two and a half years of a long-distance relationship weren't easy. He moved to Michigan from Brazil so we could be together. We've lived together for 4 years and we somehow managed to not kill each other, even though I keep taking over more and more closet space. But nothing was ever guaranteed in this life.

It still isn't.

We fight, we challenge each other, we laugh and we cry. But we do it all together. First comes love? No. First come respect and friendship. And that's what's most important. What was once a dream of ours is now a reality. Forever is just around the corner.

Rose gold, halo setting, I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Pedro did good. :)

You'd have to ask him for shopping details here. Hehe.

CHEERS!

Te amo muito, babe. Thank you for everything. <3

The Top 10 StyleMile Looks of 2014

Bruna Camargo

Happy Holidays! I hope you've been spending some quality time with your family and loved ones. This time has me looking back and reflecting about all the moments made 2014 the best year of my life. Not to get too sappy, but I want to really thank everyone who's helped me, talked to me, made me laugh, made me cry, and made me dance this year. 2014 sometimes was a bitch, but it was also a great teacher, and at 25 years old, I feel happy and secure with myself in a way I've never felt before.

Part of it has to do with StyleMile and all the experiences and new friends I've gained through it. Thank you so much for sticking around with me on this life journey disguised as a mere "fashion blog." I feel like I've evolved and grown a lot, and so has my sense of style. So here are my top StyleMile looks of 2014. Check 'em out!

Boas festas!

(10) Summer Prints - The long sleeves and beautiful colors in paisley print made this dress an unforgettable one this year.

(9) Jumpsuit Glam - Stylish and — dare I say it — comfortable, this black jumpsuit was everything during a runway event in Detroit.

(8) Fall Capes -  2014: The year of the cape! It's no wonder superheroes wear them; they always come to your outfit's rescue.

(7) Red Carpet Style - My first red carpet experience at the Teen Choice Awards was made perfect with the help of this look.

(6) Tomboyish - Making "I have nothing to wear" never ring true again by raiding Pedro's closet.

(5) All Black Everything - Early fall begs for elegance. And there's nothing classier than an all-black look and some Chanel.

(4) Indian Spice - The colors, the golden trims, the textures, the flavorsIndian weddings are incredibly beautiful.

(3) Festival Fresh - Fun: That's the definition of Coachella. Between the sounds, the style and the sand, all I wanted to do was have fun.

(2) On The Runway - "Okay, so you're not Heidi Klum, but you're the 'modeliest' of the real people." That's how I felt in my Carrie Bradshaw-inspired runway experience.

(1) 1920's Shine - This dress, though, am I right? My favorite look of the year goes to this gorgeous Badgley Mischka gown I wore to a 1920's-themed wedding, channeling The Great Gatsby's Daisy Buchanan.

Do you agree? What was your fave? Did I miss any? Let me know in the comments!
E aí, o que acharam, meninas? Qual curtiram mais? Esqueci de algum? Diz aí nos comentários!

HAVE A WONDERFULLY FABULOUS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
FELIZ, LINDO E CHIQUE ANO NOVO!

HIPPIE RE(S)OLUTIO

Bruna Camargo

I had another post set aside for this, but with the latest events that still have yet to completely unfold, I thought I’d ask some questions instead.

What is going on? When did we all collectively agree to make the world such a dark place to live in? When did we close the door to compassion? Why did we forget to say “hello” or even “thank you”?

Remember what The mothereffin’ Beatles said. "Imagine all the people, sharing all the world." SHARING. Not killing. Bombing. Bullying. Hurting. Saddening. Disappointing.

I don’t know the answers to any of those questions. It’s hard to pinpoint how we got here. There are so many smart, talented, beautiful, absolutely inspiring people walking around, and yet we can only seem to focus on what (we think) is wrong with them. Maybe they were born somewhere you’ve never been. Or their skin has more dpi than yours (nerd). Maybe you both like girls, but you might not be the same below the belt.

Big deal. None of that matters. We - humans - are all the same. Deep inside, we all want the same thing: just to live freely, to love, and to learn more about ourselves.

So thinking upon all of this, I have realized that we need to take a page from history not too far from our own. We are in desperate need of another hippie revolution.

Don’t get me wrong here. Being a hippie is not a matter of dress, behavior, economic status, or social context. It is a philosophical approach to life that emphasizes freedom, peace, love and a respect for others and the earth.

We need to transcend everything that holds us back, that keeps us from our core function: being someone. Forget politics, religions, social norms. Let go. Lose control. It’s when we try to seize control again forcefully that things go bad. People get shot even though you “have your permit to pack heat.” Even though you’ve “done three tours,” families were still torn to pieces because a country tried to overrule all others. Even though you “watched the news,” you still got the wrong information and pointed a finger at the mother of four at the grocery store, because she wore a hijab.

It’s time to stop looking away. Because only without apathy, can we continue to live. It’s time to live; not survive. Imagine that.
